What is Mustache Wax?

As the name implies, mustache wax is a firm pomade that helps you groom and style your mustache. Mustache wax is specially designed to make your mustache more manageable and give it some resistance, making it easier to groom.

Waxes can help hydrate your mustache, and they are often scented. They can also include some pigments or dyes that help you achieve your favorite look.

Which Are The Benefits Of Using Mustache Wax?

The main benefit of using mustache wax is that it helps you style your facial hair. Applying wax can help make your mustache more defined, giving it heft and volume.

Mustache wax makes your grooming process easier, and it also hydrates and nourishes your skin and hair.

DIY How to Make Moustache Wax

You can make mustache wax using only three primary ingredients:

  • Beeswax
  • Carrier oil
  • Essential oil

And to make mustache wax, you only need some common kitchen tools and several containers to store your final product:

  • Kitchen scale - for accurate measurements
  • Double boiler - you can use two pots for this purpose. Just make sure that one is larger than the other, so the smaller one can fit inside it.
  • Shallow containers - you may be familiar with the shallow tin cans commercial mustache wax comes in. Well, you can either use similar containers or small jars to store your final product. Both options work, but the shallow tin cans enable you to consume all the product they contain without too much effort.

The process of making mustache wax is simple and straightforward. You use the double boiler to melt the wax, mix it with the carrier oil and the essential oil, pour it in the container, and let it cool down.

Ingredients Needed for Mustache Wax

You only need three main ingredients for mustache wax. You can add more, of course, but we recommend doing this only after you’ve gained some experience and are familiar with the process. Here’s what you need to know about the ingredients

Beeswax Makes Or Breaks Your Mustache Wax

Mustache wax is a styling product. Even though the wax helps hydrate your hairs, the main goal behind using it is to lock your hair into place and style it as well as you can. And beeswax is the only main ingredient that helps you do that, so the quantity and quality of beeswax you use can make or break your final product.

You should make sure that you use pure, high-quality beeswax. Keep in mind that the color of beeswax doesn’t affect the process. Beeswax can be white, yellow, or any shade in between. Every color variety works because it doesn’t influence the final product in any way.

Carrier Oils Nourish Your Skin And Hair

If the process of choosing beeswax is fairly simple, it quickly becomes more complicated when you have to choose a carrier oil. Why? Because there are a lot of carrier oils you can use, all of them with different pros and cons. Here’s a short list of what we recommend you use:

  • Coconut oil - good for cooking, good for cosmetics, good for your mustache. Coconut oil is consumable and holds well in storage, so you can use it with great results.
  • Jojoba oil - is commonly used in different cosmetics. Is not really edible, but won’t hurt you if you eat some by mistake (this can happen accidentally because you cover your mustache with wax).
  • Petroleum jelly - very easy to work with, cheap, and mixes well with beeswax.

Essential Oils Make Your Wax Extraordinary

The beeswax and carrier oil represent the structural components of your mustache wax. But essential oils bring the mixture to life, giving it scent and personality. There are a lot of essential oils you can choose for your wax, but here’s what we recommend.

  • Sandalwood - is an ingredient present in many perfumes and colognes. It gives your wax a deep, woody scent.
  • Peppermint - fresh and invigorating, peppermint is a stimulating option for your wax.
  • Clary Sage - with a refreshing minty scent, this essential oil smells amazing
  • Citrus - lemon, lime, and orange essential oils work well for this purpose. Choose the one you like best
  • Cedar - a popular choice among those who prefer woody scents over floral ones.
